The truth about celebrating with Bel Altar.

I believe honesty builds lasting relationships, just like it has for many couples I've married. Here are honest answers to help you decide what's best for you.

  • Primarily English and Spanish, but as a plus, I can also communicate at a basic level in Italian and German. And yes, I'm open to exploring incorporating short phrases or sections in other languages if they hold special meaning for you.

In fact, I had the honor of officiating a Persian-style wedding for a Colombian-Iranian couple where, in addition to English and Spanish, we elevated the phonetic experience by reciting phrases in Farsi. Everyone was "farsinated"!

  • No, I do not. For now, I'm focusing on my main wedding ceremonies!

  • Yes, absolutely! While it might seem at first glance that an officiant and a wedding planner fill similar roles, they are actually quite distinct and both are essential for a successful wedding. Even small ceremonies benefit greatly from having both professionals involved.

A professional wedding planner ensures the day runs smoothly and efficiently, creating a noticeably calmer atmosphere. Their coordination is a wise investment for a happy and seamless celebration.

From my perspective as an officiant, wedding planners are invaluable. They've consistently made my work and the special days of countless couples truly magnificent. Honestly, I can't imagine officiating a wedding ceremony without their expert coordination.

  • No. A marriage license is not legally required for a symbolic wedding ceremony in Colombia. All weddings, including religious, must be registered with a notary public to make it legal both here in Colombia and internationally.
I’ll be glad to help you make this process easier reccommending a great notary officer with whom I’ve worked previously.

  • My signature ceremonies, which are secular or symbolic – or as I like to call them, humanist – truly focus on the power of heartfelt words and genuine connection. While rituals with candles and sand can be trendy, my philosophy leans towards "less is more."

I believe the sophistication of carefully chosen words and meaningful acts of service create a ceremony that's truly unique and deeply personal – and honestly, those other rituals can sometimes feel a bit "been there, done that," don't you think? These signature ceremonies are crafted to be unlike any other.

  • I certainly do! My home base is the vibrant Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, but I've had the joy of officiating weddings in other destinations too!
